Encyclopocalypse Dispatch #6
In this dispatch: Suburbanite Psychological Terror, Deadly Summer Camp, and Mysterious Alien TECH...
Last weekend we had an amazing time at the LA Times Festival of Books. We were invited to share a table with CLASH Books, and we had a blast. It was great talking shop with Christoph Paul, Managing Editor of CLASH (as well as an award-winning author AND singer/bass player in alt/rock band The Dionysus Effect!)
So many people visited the booth, and we’re grateful for everyone who talked to us about our books and took some home with them. Ken Winkler, Joshua Millican, Bret Nelson, and John Penney all stopped by and signed books. We’ll have to do more events like this in the future!
Make sure you check out CLASH, too! They’re a nice compliment to what we’re doing. I made the joke that they’re the A24 to our New World Pictures. CLASH has a nice collection of the literary and the fucked up. Really fun books! I recommend the following: Darryl, The Pussy Detective, Anybody Home?, The Last Night to Kill Nazis, and Afterword (just to name a few).

NEWS
Sleepaway Camp to Get the Novelization Treatment from Judith Sonnet!
In 1983, Sleepaway Camp shocked audiences and has earned it’s place in the Cult Horror Film pantheon. It’s not without it’s share of controversy, though. Especially when watching the film through today’s modern lens. There have been many articles both defending the film as well as pointing out how problematic the film is. I recently read a fantastic article by Harmony Colangelo that does both!
We are excited to announce that Judith Sonnet will be bringing Sleepaway Camp to book form. Judith is a POWERHOUSE author. Somone who always brings the splattery goods, but also someone who can turn a well-known property onto it’s head and offer up subversive surprises. She is the PERFECT author for Sleepaway Camp and was our first and only choice for the project. When we learned that this is one of Judith’s favorite horror films, we knew we were in good hands.
We’ll have more information as it develops!
Vincenzo Natali to Release Debut Graphic Novel TECH!
Yesterday Daily Dead broke the news of our September 22nd release of Vincenzo Natali’s debut graphic novel with an exclusive Q&A with Vincenzo as well as an 8 page preview of the upcoming graphic novel. We are beyond excited to get this incredible piece of work out into the world. The story is amazing, and the visuals are just stunning.
Here’s our press release:
Los Angeles, CA – What would humans do if they got ahold of alien technology? In Vincenzo Natali’s upcoming graphic novel TECH, they’d exploit it for profit. Releasing on September 22, 2023, from publisher Encyclopocalypse Publications, TECH furthers Natali’s passion for sci-fi horror into the realm of literary fiction.
“We have been admirers of Vincenzo’s unique vision and imagination ever since Cube blew our minds. Working with him on TECH, which is a stunning and visionary piece of art, has been a dream.” says Sean Duregger, Managing Editor of Encyclopocalypse Publications.
TECH explores a not-too-distant future in which mankind has cracked the code for alien engineering. Obtaining such insight carries a hefty price tag that Earth’s miscreants are willing to pay – and lowly courier Shel can deliver. Business is booming, but it’s a dangerous occupation; one that she would’ve abandoned long ago if not for her daughter’s expensive medical treatments. Unbeknownst to Shel, however, is that the same secrets she’s peddling on the black market are the very key to living the life she so desperately yearns for.
"TECH is the realization of a lifelong dream to write and illustrate my own graphic novel,” says Natali. “As someone who works in the film and television space, I reveled in the freedom of a form unrestricted by time, money, and the machinery of Hollywood. The result is the most direct and undiluted translation of my imagination to words and images.”
Vincenzo Natali is a wildly successful director and screenwriter, whose credits include the cult hits Cube and Splice. His talents have been displayed across multiple outlets, including helming episodes of 2020’s The Stand miniseries and, most recently, Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and Amazon Prime’s adaptation of William Gibson’s The Peripheral.
On why he chose Encyclopocalypse to help bring TECH out into the world, Natali had this to say, “The good people at Encyclopocalypse understand the inherent value of genre and are connoisseurs of its strangest and darkest corners, which is where I thrive. I feel immensely fortunate to have fallen into their orbit.”
TECH will be available wherever books are sold on September 22, 2023. You can pre-order the graphic novel directly from Encyclopocalypse at BuyHorrorBooks.com.
NEW RELEASES
In Print
I’ve been a fan of Rena Mason’s Bram Stoker Award Winning1 book The Evolutionist ever since I listened to the fantastic audiobook, narrated by Carol Schneider. When Rena approached us on releasing a 10th anniversary edition of the book, along with incredible art from Lynne Hansen and Todd Keisling handling the interior formatting and design, we didn’t have to think twice.
Las Vegas suburbanite, Stacy Troy, dreams that everyone is dead. She dismembers the bodies of loved ones, stuffs them into a shopping cart, then takes them two at a time to the pile where she will burn their remains and say her last goodbyes.
Waking nightly to her own screams, Stacy is convinced she’s on the brink of a mid-life crisis and begins secretly seeing a psychiatrist. Dr. Light and his methods seem strange and unconventional, but his treatments work, and her circumstances improve. Until the nightmares return with a vengeance, taking on a life of their own.
Uncertain what to believe, Stacy carries on living the only life she remembers. Nosebleeds and head-splitting alarms only she can hear, become a regular occurrence. In physical and mental decline, the nocturnal world in her mind refuses to die. The images it reveals hold clues that lead her to a shocking discovery.
Threatening to unravel the last thread of her sanity, Stacy must make a heartrending decision...before her post-apocalyptic nightmares come true.
You can grab the print version directly from us at BuyHorrorBooks.com.
You can grab the eBook from any of these stores.
